Another Milestone For All of Us

It doesn’t feel right without all three

It’s been a crazy couple of days in our household.  The hectic pace has been good, because I didn’t have to think about what was going to happen today.  After all the craziness died down, I’m now sitting on the couch and my oldest child is off to camp in another state.

It seemed like such an easy proposition when I was flipping through the pages of a swimming magazine and noticed the University of Michigan was offering a swim camp.  They accepted swimmers her age, and they were running a camp the same week my parents were headed there for a wedding.  She could stay with my aunt and uncle who live just outside of Ann Arbor.  Matt and I struggled with the idea of sending her away at such a young age, but she was really excited about the idea.  So I logged on, signed her up and didn’t think much about it after that.

Time flew by and here we are. It’s been rush, rush, rush for the last 24 hours.  All three kids had a swim meet last night and it ran late.  Grace had another swim meet this morning where she had to be in the pool at 7:00AM.  After getting home from today’s meet, I grabbed her suitcase and threw a bunch of clothes in it.  I double checked for the toothbrush, retainer, swim gear and stuffed dog she can’t sleep without.  While I was panicking to see if anything had been forgotten, Grace squeezed me tight and started to cry.  I had to hold it together for her sake, but wanted to sit there and cry with her.  I kept reassuring her that she was going to have a blast and didn’t mention that I was going to feel empty without her.  There were many more tears and extended hugs before she walked out the front door with my mom.

Things will be different here for the next week.   Dinners will be set for four and her room will be empty.  Her brother and sister will have to come up with a new way to play house.  I’ll be thinking about her all the time.  I know she will be having a great time and I can’t wait to hear about all of her experiences.  Hopefully, we all make it through the week and these growing pains aren’t too painful for any of us!

Wish I knew she was doing that. Let me know should she do it next year. Brynn is doing swim team for the first time this year. I would have loved to have seen her also, but we are rushing back from North Carolina to get Brynn to bible camp a day late. Hope she loves.

I will let you know. If this goes well, it will probably be something we do every year. It is a pretty intense camp. They estimate 4-6000 yards per day and include dryland training and lectures on nutrition and how to prepare mentally for racing. She’s going to be exhausted when I see her next!
